Hola mi gente!!!!! This week was sweet! We saw miracles out the
building; insane.
Feb 8th
Monday fun day. Laundry, studs, shopping, ball. There's a day. After
sports we went to dinner with the Johnson's, a sweet family. Then we
went to S. D's house where we forgot he was making chili
and cornbread so we ate that with him... Right after dinner.... Oh
boy. We were stuffed. We had a lesson over dinner number two and then
visited with a sweet family in the ward.
Feb 9th
Tuesday, we did studs and then went to the church where I did a
Skype Spanish study with Elder Call, another Elder in the district, it
went pretty well. Then we did stake reports, the car battery died so
we had to get a jump from a member then go to get the car battery
replaced after getting Burger King; so we ate our Burger King in the
Ford dealerships while doing stake reports... Fun stuff haha. Luckily
the Lord is merciful so the men worked quickly to get the car taken
care of. We luckily finished almost all of our Stake Reports by then
so we only had one more to do! $$$$$$$ so after finishing we rushed to
our appointment with A and his friend (A.S.) where we taught the Plan of
Salvation and we extended the invitation for A's friend to be baptized onand he said "That's my birthday!" I was freaking out like,
"WHAT?! Are you serious?!" To me, it was a testimony builder that God
knows us each individually. And we are planning on Austin receiving
the Aaronic priesthood by then and baptizing A.S.. Well, after that
lesson we rushed to dinner, it was Elder Hunts birthday so I bought
him lunch and the family we were having dinner with made him his
favorite meal: chicken haystacks and carrot cake. But they forgot to
make rice, so they made it while we did the dinner message first haha,
it worked out perfect though! After dinner we had to rush home and
prep some last minute stuff for a meeting. Then after the meeting we
had a lesson with S. D. about part of the commandments:
Reading scripture, praying, attending church, and the Word of Wisdom.
It went well.
Feb 10
Wednesday, district meeting in St. joe. Trainings were on talking
with everyone and finding people to teach. Afterward we did exchanges.
I went to St. Joe with Elders Conley and Sutton, they are in a trio,
and Elder Hunt stayed with Elder Wood in Platte City. It was a good
time being with Elder Conley again, we had some good memories from
Sedalia; and Elder Sutton is a baller so it was a cool exchange. We
had an appointment where we had a member so we broke off, Elder Conley
and I tried some potentials and Elder Sutton went with the member to
teach a lesson. We didn't have a lot of success trying people but it's
all good. We did however, go into the sketchiest gas station I've ever
been in, it was gnarly, Elder Conley told me the members always told
them not to go there because of how scary it is, I thought it would be
cool; I was wrong, it was all but cool, and super sketch. The first
two people that walked out were COVERED in tats, but one had like tear
drops beneath his eyes, signifying murder; money. I got out of the car
and said hey to one of them, his response, "I don't bite!!", okay
then... We quickly used the restrooms and left. We tried two more
people and then picked up Elder Sutton and the member from the lesson
and then helped an elderly widow move some furniture around. Then we
had to go to dinner. After dinner we tried to contact a few potentials
before having a lesson with a recent convert.
Feb 11
Thursday we exchanged back. We had a lesson with A's friend from Hillcrest
thrift store. It was alright, she definitely expressed that she wasn't
interested in converting, just wanted to learn about our faith. We then went to dinner.
After dinner, we did some phone contacting of less-active members, no luck.
We also tried setting up members for our visits Friday and Saturday,
no luck for Friday, but Saturday was good.
Feb 12
Friday, We did service at the thrift store; we always basically run
the dock when we are there. After service, we had lunch before
spending a long day trying potentials, with literally 0 success, we
actually crossed more people off than we even talked to because most
of them were people Elder Hunt had talked to that weren't interested.
Well after about 3-3.5 hours of that, we had dinner. And then we tried
a few peeps before two appointments that night. One with A,
covering baptismal interview questions, and the other with the
Bs, a super cool member family we are working with.
Feb 12
Saturday, we had a lesson with A. H.. It went well. Then we
did service at Hillcrest. After that we had a lesson with Michael
Sawyer that went well. We taught the Plan of Salvation and when we
asked him what he understood about the plan and he said, "Well, it
seems that I need to act on the word since I've heard it," implying
that he needs to apply the gospel now that he's heard it if he wants
happiness in the life after this. Well, after that lesson we had to go
to dinner before rushing to a lesson with S. D. where we
talked about the scriptures, answering questions he had, and the role
of prophets today. We finished with a lesson with A where we
discussed the atonement and the priesthood.
Feb 13
Sunday, we had a correlation conference call, the ward mission
leader, Brother A, was of of town but he's so on the ball he
still did a conference call, (ball, call; poetic). We had ward council
after that and then we had choir practice, we sang in church, you're
lucky you weren't there. Then we had church. We were super blessed
this week, we were able to have A, A.S., S, M, and
A. H. all attend sacrament; miraculous. God is good! Well, sacrament
was good but definitely felt long with two people taking up like 35
minutes because the first half of the meeting went really fast. We had
two investigators leave after sacrament. Sunday school was an awesome
lesson about sacrifice and offerings to God; very good lesson. Then
for priesthood we taught from the Howard W Hunter manual chapter 3,
about the need for adversity; it went well. After church we went home
and changed into pross clothes before visiting a less active family.
After that we went to dinner before going with the Elders Quorum
President to visit a few less-active/prospective Elders. Well, at the
end of the night I realized I was missing my name tag, and I started
freaking out, for one reason, the name tags made at the Mexico MTC are
different than anywhere else in the world because the letters for the
name are thinner, and so if I lost it I would never get another one
like it... Luckily after looking at all the places we had gone we
found it! Tender mercies!
Well, life's all good in the "816". The Lord is watching over us and
extending the hand of mercy like you wouldn't believe; it's real, He's
real. I know that without a doubt. I hope you all are doing great!
Have a good week!
Much love,
Elder Hinrichsen
